If you've ever listened to Audio Adrenaline's Underdog CD, you'll understand what I'm talking about. The guy in the background says something and I just stumbled across it in my reading. Thought I'd share the answer to the mysterious man:
"Underdog. I wince even as I write the word, especially in connection with Jesus...Yet as I read the birth stories about Jesus I cannot help but conclude that though the world may be titled toward the rich and powerful, God is tilted toward the underdog."
---"The Jesus I Never Knew" by Philip Yancey, (p. 39)
...If you want something even more surprising, the copywrite of the book is 1995, yet Yancey make a connection of the final week of Jesus and the Twin Towers.
"...a rumor had spread that Jesus claimed he could destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days. Jewish leaders had trouble getting witnesses to agree on the exact wording of Jesus' statement, but their alarm is understandable. Imagine the reaction today if an Arab ran through the streets of New York City shouting, 'The World Trade Center will blow up, and I can rebuild it in three days.'" (p. 197)
The reaction today would probably be a lot greater than Yancey expected. But maybe we would actually have a similar reaction to the Arab's statement as the Pharisees had to Jesus' statement.
