Changes

Thank God for hope.

As you can see, I've been pretty consumed with work since beginning my new job in July. Changes since then:
-learning the ropes at work
-boss being out of the country
-three key people I work with changing job positions--it was planned and for promotions and various reasons.
-getting three new people.
-our department is re-organizing processes, job assignments, and redefining what we do and how we do it.

This will all lead to a different, hopefully more streamlined and efficient office...eventually. It's just going to take another couple months before we hit the groove. Until then...

Breaking news about Becky's life.

So two days ago I quit my job.

The next day I started my new one.

I'm working as an organization mastermind and a marketing liaison. We'll see how it goes. I'm excited to be working with the people, and yet it feels completely surreal to be there. Things change hecka fast.

In Memory of the Most Trusted Man in America

Here's to you, Walter Cronkite. Thank you for showing us how journalism should be and can succeed. Rest in peace.

Quotes

"I can't imagine a person becoming a success who doesn't give this game of life everything he's got. "

"I think it is absolutely essential in a democracy to have competition in the media, a lot of competition, and we seem to be moving away from that. "

"Objective journalism and an opinion column are about as similar as the Bible and Playboy magazine. "

Teenager Murder, 2003

One of the most horrifying stories I've ever read. A news story about three teens who commit murder — what's horrifying is the profiles of each of the murders. One is a manipulative kid who conspires to kill his 17 year old wife, a complete psychopath girl and her fat sidekick who had never met the victim and did it on the agreement that he could "move out of his parents' house."

Famous Last Words

1. ...Crap.

2. Yeah, this'll work. Trust me.

3. I'm pretty sure I can do it. I saw it on a cartoon once.

4. Yes, dear...I'm listening...

5. Perhaps a little fat in that dress.

6. Yep, get that to you Tuesday.

7. Look, it's perfectly safe.

8. Oops.

9. I know what I'm doing! What do you think I am? An idiot??

10. Don't be ridiculous, of course it's wired like this.

11. Hey guys, watch this!

12. E tu, Brutus?

It's amazing how a small list of creativity can stimulate the brain at work again. Probably because of No. 6...

Relationship Quotes and Summaries from this Month

Quotes from real life, summaries from reading. Ideas for grappling.

• "I want to look so good I make a clergyman cry." ~Girl getting dressed up for a date.

• "Don't worry so much about losing something that you overlook what you already have." ~Wise woman relational advice.

• "Adore yourself." ~Every woman's struggle.

• "You're a mess over the breakup you experienced, I'm a mess over the breakup I expect any day." ~Girl talk about insecurities.

• "Average is alright." ~A woman about coming to grips with self-image, culture and personal expectations.

• Summary of new ideas discovered while reading "Ten Commandments of Dating" by the author of "Kosher Sex,":
Today's generation is aristocratic when dating — a person looks for a partner of equal intelligence, looks, talents, money and manners who will make a good match. Rabbi Shmuley Boteach advocates being a peasant — one person looking for a soulmate, where both people feel that they are "home," and complete, a full acceptance of the other person. He says to stop worshipping self-sufficiency and realize that there is a need that only the other person can fill.

...I'm still trying to decide which parts of these I agree with...

Happy belated Earth Day!

In honor of April 22. Yep, I have slight hippy tendencies, but this railroader amused me. Hope you enjoy!
