there's some people that seem naturally drawn to all the normalicies in life. the whole yellow lab, white picket fence, dorito chips in front of Grey's Anatomy experience. and then there are "the others" (to borrow a phrase from "Lost").
the others pretend their breath will contaminate others with contageous purpose to pursue what's right. and somehow the others inspire us to make that "hero complex" a personal reality.
that could mean choosing to leave the country, choosing not to hook up with someone and settle down, choosing to get immensely outside of any pretense of comfort or choosing to become a dangerously deeper and real friend. it could even mean almost hyperventelating from excitement about dorky/nerdy topics that make everyone else's eyes glaze peacefully over....
one day maybe i'll want the babies, big dogs and a cute little suburban cottage. but when i do, hopefully i'll speak multiple languages to the kids, take the dogs on long walks beside mediterranean waves and muddle through the sewerage of politics to say somewhere things could have gotten a whole lot worse, but i helped make them better instead....and probably got fired for it. :)
i want to make a difference. i don't want to be stuck within an apathetic mob. i just hope that like so many flower-power-civil-minded-youth of the 60s, i don't get so caught up in the "now" that i lose sight of the "why" or the "how."
