Usually I do not get into political campaigns AT ALL. In the past, I really haven't cared about politics. The "big bad powers that be" had no real impact on my life. This idea began to change when I lived in Australia for a couple months and discovered that my Aussie mates knew more about American politics than I did.
I used to think that politics was simply a huge complicated web that was impossible to understand. I wanted to make informed decisions in the voting process and on political ideas, but that to me meant understanding every aspect of every debate and that my friends, seemed much too daunting.
And I was right. Politics is entangled. But now I realize politics is not about having the right answer on everything. Politics is about finding the right answer together: sharing new ideas, understanding an opposite view and learning more about a subject which enforces or causes me to adjust my opinion. And the good news about political ideas being so wrapped around each other, is that once you learn about one topic, it helps you understand the others.
The point is, we can't hide from politics. Now's the time to listen to opposite ideas, watch a youtube clip of a speech or two and get ready to make a decision. Politics only works if "we the people" make it work.
