Tomorrow is the annual Project Impact day! Which in case you don't know, is super cool. Usually more than 80% of the school---studets, staff and faculty--get together and do everything from cleaning to tearing down old walls to painting to playing with kids. We're spread over 50 sites around Lincoln and this is its 25th year. So yeah...it's pretty awesome. It's really fun, everyone's excited to be there and friends make the work energetic--not to mention the amazement of the people whose organizations we help. They're always so grateful and excited we're there. It's really fun to see what would be an impossible task be completed in a couple hours from eager hands.
You know, before I came to this school I thought volunteering was something you had to do as part of church. But this college has really inspired me to try and make service a lifestyle. It transforms people. Personal self-obsession lessens a little for a day. It's refreshing, and odd that helping others---doing for others what they can't do for themselves--can be such a blast.

Service is a great thing indeed - how did it go? Michelle seems to have had a good time helping the community out.
more than 900 people showed up. there's a little less than 1,000 students in the school. and we had a about 200 people involved from a couple organizations, an elementary school and some community people. it was really awesome. and REALLY hot: 97 degrees F, with i think it was 80% humidity. nasty. people helped in the until lunch, and then half stayed through the afternoon even though it felt like it was getting hotter--not cooler--throughout the afternoon. so it was pretty much mind-blowing. :) and it was really fun. :D
Hi Becky. You had quite a summer. Back to the books hey. Glad you had fun volunteering. Do you see Michelle? Paths cross less and less the busier things get. Kris, Michelle's mum.
very cool to meet you, michelle's mom! yes, i see michelle and we talk when we can. between school life and life in general, i know how hard it is to catch up with friends near and far. :)
