Just got back from four days in Napoli exploring the coast of Capri, the underground Napoli (greek and roman underground acquaducts used as bomb shelters during WWII), and ancient Pompei---which is pretty much one of the coolest historical sites ever.
Pompei was "ancient Hollywood for the rich and glamorous," according to our guide, Ehren. Then in 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius (seen in the background) covered the entire city in ash and volcanic rock for 1700 years. Bodies of children, men, women and even dogs are soldified and shown in their convulsed forms. Apparently their deaths were quick and painful, some with their arms still outstretched to protect their face. It was grusome and amazing to walk among the ancient and see their story.
