I love Germany. Oh my goodness. I had never been to Germany until about 10 days ago when we visited Munich and a couple towns nearby. AMAZING. (Adele, I am so sorry for doubting you!)
While talking to one of the coolest people ever here in Italy, she said she loved Germany and wouldn't mind living there (she visited Berlin at least twice this year). I couldn't imagine why. And then I went. AMAZING. More trees than Oregon (THAT'S saying something), it's completely green awe-inspiring countryside with a great mixture of high tech modern life in town dotted by ancient architecture and heritage.
Before I visited, I was pretty much of darling Dylan Moran's opinion---I know he's doin satire, but there seemed a lot of truth to that embarrassingly enough...---until I actually visited the place. (His dialogue was on repeat in my head for the entire trip.)
It was strange to find everything Dylan said as the opposite in real life (even the language grows on you when you see how amazingly out-of-the-way friendly the people are). All was different, EXCEPT for the bit about talking to a German person. That, unfortunately, was so true for me. :P
But I'm learning to be a more intelligent, open-minded person who has, by the way, become enchanted with Germany, its rich heritage of searching for knowledge, its more environment friendly lifestyle and the its home-town feeling while it maintains big city technology. I've realized that while the rest of the world may be still looking at Germany through a 1940s lens, but Germany itself, isn't.
*I apologize for the swearing. Sensitive ears may need to be turned off at the very beginning and end...but don't miss the middle!
